Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged all parties, including the Ministry of Transport (MOT), relevant agencies and private companies in the logistics sector to ensure that industry infrastructure and workforce skills meet the highest standards.
Anwar noted that this year, major investors have expressed interest in Malaysia, with infrastructure at ports, transport and logistics being among their main considerations.
“Among issues raised is that when investors enter areas such as Selangor, Kulim (Kedah), Johor, Sabah and Sarawak, they examine the capabilities of the entire ecosystem.
“That’s why I urge the ministry and stakeholders to prioritise this sector, as the pace and scale of change are rapid. If, for example, our systems lag, we will left behind,” he said.
Furthermore, he stated that relevant parties such as Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, MOT, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and the Immigration Department must ensure that the entire infrastructure of the logistics ecosystem receives due attention.
“We always focus on this because ports, transport, airlines and logistics management are critical,” he stressed.
According to Anwar, there has been a recent surge in investment in Selangor, Johor and Kulim Hi-Tech, particularly with a new concentration of large companies in data centres and artificial intelligence (AI) in Malaysia.
“This is something to be proud of, but if we do not manage it well, it will hinder the progress we seek,” Anwar pointed out.
Additionally, Anwar suggested that DHL provide skill training for its employees in automation and AI.
“What we ask of DHL, like any other large company, is to concentrate more on upskilling employees through a centre of excellence and providing training that exceeds basic skills.
“This upskilling is crucial as we focus on automation, digitalisation and AI. I believe DHL, as a leading logistics company, can empower young people in this field,” he added.
