The Saigon Newport Corporation, which operates the Tan Cang-Hiep Phuoc (TCHP) port situated in Ho Chi Minh City’s Nha Be district, is investing more in port development, including 300 hectares of storage space, container terminals and a general port.
With its geographical advantage and investment plans, the port has enough scope to turn into a logistics centre in the city’s south.
The port is located at Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park and close to client warehouses of Lotte, Alpha and Dory and Saigon food factories.
The district plans to retain the Hiep Phuoc Logistics Centre on a scale of more than 250 hectares as a distribution hub for e-commerce and domestic goods, according to a Vietnamese newspaper report.
The country’s master plan for seaport system development in 2021-2030 calls for developing the orientation of seaports in the city to shift cargo flow out of the central area, connecting the Mekong Delta and Cai Mep port cluster in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, and developing large-scale ports to receive transshipment flows from neighbouring regions.
HCM City is now working on a logistics development strategy that would make it a major logistics hub in the country and Southeast Asia.
Its target is to develop three logistics centres, one each in its south and north and one for aviation. The former two are expected to be at least 40 hectares in size by 2025, expanding to 70 hectares by 2030.
An annual growth of 25 percent for the logistics industry is also part of the target.
