Pos Malaysia Advances Towards Net Zero with 50 Electric Motorcycles

Pos Malaysia Berhad, the nation’s leading postal and parcel service provider, is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. As part of this ambitious journey, the company has taken delivery of 50 electric motorcycles from Motosikal Dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (MODENAS), the assembler of MEV-1, in collaboration with DRB-HICOM EZ-Drive Sdn Bhd (AVIS), the leasing provider for the MEV-1 program.

Pos Malaysia’s dedication to environmental responsibility aligns with its sustainability roadmap, positioning the company as a beacon of environmentally conscious practices within the logistics sector. The initiative aims to benefit employees, customers, and the planet.

Charles Brewer, group CEO of Pos Malaysia Berhad, emphasized the significance of this step, stating, “This milestone underscores our unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship. Complementing the existing 55 e-Bikes operating in the Klang Valley, these 50 MODENAS e-Bikes will be deployed in other states, including Johor, Kedah, Penang, and Perak.

“By the close of 2023, our goal is to have 200 e-Bikes and 143 e-Vans serving Malaysia. We are fully dedicated to our purpose of building trust to connect lives and businesses for a better tomorrow. Our aim is to transition all our last-mile vehicles from internal combustion engines to electric by 2030. In essence, we will deliver in a cleaner and greener manner.”

Roslan Roskan, CEO of MODENAS, highlighted the MEV-1’s role in sustainable mobility solutions, reflecting the company’s commitment to providing robust and eco-friendly transportation alternatives within Malaysia and beyond. The MEV-1, with its advanced technology and sleek design, signifies a significant stride towards a more environmentally conscious transportation landscape.

Mohd Syahrul Yusuf, COO of AVIS Malaysia, emphasized their shared mission to reduce carbon footprints. He affirmed, “Our partnership with Pos Malaysia is a proactive effort to decrease fuel consumption and emissions. We are committed to fostering energy efficiency through innovative approaches.”

Brewer expressed his enthusiasm for collaboration with MODENAS and AVIS, as they collectively strive to minimize their environmental impact. Pos Malaysia remains resolute in reducing emissions, enhancing energy efficiency, and embracing cleaner technologies. As the sole logistics provider in Malaysia committed to a net zero target, Pos Malaysia aims to usher in a cleaner delivery approach, inviting others to contribute to the cause.

Earlier this year, Pos Malaysia introduced its sustainability roadmap, outlining strategies to diminish its environmental footprint. The company targets net zero carbon emissions for its operations by 2050, aligning with global efforts to curb global warming.

The group actively participates in the UN Global Compact (UNGC), is a member of the International Post Corporation (IPC) Sustainability Measurement and Management System (SMMS) program, and contributes actively to the sustainability and carbon reduction objectives of the post and parcel industry.
