MAKOTO KATO APPOINTED PRESIDENT OF UPS JAPAN

TOKYO, Aug. 9, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — UPS (NYSE: UPS) announced that Makoto Kato has been appointed as President of UPS Japan, Co., Ltd. (“UPS Japan”), effective August 1, 2023. He will be responsible for overseeing the overall express operations of UPS Japan.

A UPS veteran of 27 years, Makoto has demonstrated his leadership in operations and brokerage across various business units including small package and air/ocean freight. Prior to his current appointment, Makoto was the East Japan Hub Operations Manager in charge of Narita and Shinkiba.

With his extensive knowledge and experience in the industry, under Makoto’s leadership, UPS Japan will be ever more agile and responsive to changes in regulations that are expected with the continuing growth cross-border e-commerce. This will allow UPS Japan to better facilitate the seamless trade of our customers.

Makoto Kato Appointed President of UPS Japan

Makoto Kato is the President and Representative Director for UPS Japan and is based in Tokyo. He is responsible for the strategic management of UPS’s express delivery operations in Japan. 

Since Makoto joined UPS in 1996, he has built extensive experience and knowledge in operations and brokerage for small package and air/ocean freight business operations in Japan. In 2007, he was promoted to the Ocean Operations Manager, and to the Brokerage Manager in 2013.

Makoto most recently served as the East Japan Hub Operations Manager. As a leader who places high emphasis on safety in the workplace, Makoto leads by example and prioritizes the well-being and security of his team. As the hub manager, Makoto committed to ensuring a safe work environment for his people and led his team to establish and promote safety protocols and standards and continues to make ongoing enhancements in the workplace. 

His engagement with the commercial team in developing innovative business solutions has also proven success as it won new businesses from customers.

Native of Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, Makoto holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Tokyo Keizai University.
